The Rockies are California dreamin’ — and you can’t blame them.
Losers of eight consecutive games, they were rained out for the third time in a week when Saturday night’s game against the Los Dodgers was postponed as cold rain drenched Coors Field. Add in a washed-out game April 26, when they were supposed to host the San Francisco Giants, and the Rockies already have had four postponements — tying a franchise record for most postponed games in a season.
“I’ve never seen weather like this in Denver,” manager Walt Weiss said. “I’ve lived here 21, 22 years. I’ve never seen it stick around like this where it’s just socked in for a week.”

Fortunately for the Rockies, they travel to Southern California for a six-game road trip beginning Tuesday against the Angels in Anaheim.
But first, they might have to face the elements one more time. The Rockies are supposed to host the Dodgers at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, but with 5 to 10 inches of snow in the Front Range forecast between Saturday night and Sunday morning, that game could be in jeopardy too. The forecast ruled out the possibility of the teams playing a doubleheader Sunday.
The Rockies and Dodgers did sneak in their game Friday, although it was called in the top of the sixth inning after the second weather delay of the game. Los Angeles won 2-1 because it held that lead after five innings, making it a complete game.
No date has been announced for a makeup game; the teams do not have a shared day off on either end of the Dodgers’ remaining two road trips to Denver.
Before Saturday’s game was washed out, Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado was trying to decide which kind of head gear to wear to stay warm. He was not a big fan of Mother Nature at that moment.
“It’s tough that we are losing like we are, so you want to get back in a groove,” he said. “You want to play. As a hitter, everything is timing, and when you have this many days off, slowly but surely you lose that. It gets frustrating, but it is what it is. We just have to wait for a better day tomorrow. Then we get to go to California.”
