Now here’s something to get fired up about: On May 30, Loveland will host the inaugural Rock’n Western Rendezvous Ribba-Ramma. The event will take place at the Ranch Events Complex, and will offer $1,000 in prize money — plus a people’s choice award — for amateur pitmasters in northern Colorado.

Each team will be asked to prepare five racks of pork ribs. Six bones will be turned in for judging, and the rest can be sampled by the public from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Saturday May 30. (For more information, or to register, visit www.smokeonthewaterproductions.com and go to the Rock’n Western Rendezvous page.)

The pros get in on the action that Sunday. They’ll vie for $35,000, touted as the largest purse in the West. The competition is under the aegis of Smoke on the Water Productions, and is a -sanctioned event. Teams will be judged in four categories: chicken, ribs, brisket and pork butt.

For hungry event-goers, free barbeque samples will be available on a first come, first served basis on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (‘Cue will also will be sold throughout the event.)

The first-year event is coming to The Ranch Events Complex to fill the barbeque void in a state full of professional BBQers. Until now, there has never been a barbeque competition of this size in Colorado, and the producer of the event, Smoke on the Water Productions has invited the Team of the Year from the biggest barbeque associations in the U.S. to represent their region.

The event is part of Loveland’s Rock’n Western Rendezvous – Stock, Rock and BBQ Festival.

And if you need to bone up on your barbecuing, .
