Re: “Air quality’s Chicken Little,” May 10 Vincent Carroll column.

In his excellent, fact-based article, Vincent Carroll cites real data on the improvement of Denver’s air quality. But he fails to mention the “elephant in the sky” — the so-called “carbon pollution” that President Obama and his fellow Democrats keep talking about but fail to define. It is, of course that evil, fictitious “greenhouse gas,” CO2, that they are referring to.

But CO2 is not a pollutant. It is an essential ingredient of the Earth’s ecosystem. Its atmospheric concentration is controlled by natural sources and sinks — emission by warm oceans, absorption by cold oceans, photosynthesis, vegetative decay, forest fires, volcanic activity, weathering of limestone, and others. It is not controlled by human emission, which is trivial by comparison. Abundant evidence is available to prove that assertion.
