Pancakes with blackberry syrup and a side of bacon? Now that’s a breakfast. (Photo by William Porter)
Syrup restaurant in Cherry Creek is a regular part of my breakfast rotation. And while I’m almost invariably drawn to eggy goodness, there’s something about a chilly, drizzly day — in mid-May, yet — that gets me hankering for a plate of pancakes and a side of bacon.
I’ve been a fan of Syrup since the get-go and gave it back two years ago. Owner Tim Doherty is a great guy — he has a sister restaurant downtown — and makes it a point to chat with customers or even pull up a chair. The place sits in a downstair’s room at 300 Josephine St.
Syrup’s menu covers the gamut of breakfast and lunch dishes, but as the restaurant’s name insists, syrup is the specialty. So I was a happy camper when a plateful of hefty pancakes arrived, sprinkled with sugar and with a ramekin of pecan-butter and a small pitcher of housemade blackberry syrup to dress things out. (All kinds of syrup options are available, including apricot, strawberry, blueberry etc.) Naturally, there was a side of bacon to cut the sweetness.
Yum.
