Military officials Monday identified a 21-year-old sailor from Alamosa who died while on liberty from serving aboard the Navy’s USS Farragut in the Middle East.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Devon J. Doyle died Saturday in Manama, Bahrain, in a non-combat related incident, the Department of Defense said in a news release.

Doyle died in an apparent fall from a hotel balcony.

“The incident is under investigation,” defense officials said in the release.

The Farragut, a destroyer based in Mayport, Fla., is supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, which is targeting Islamic State fighters in Iraq and Syria.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to his family,” Commander Cory R. Applebee said in a statement . “He was an outstanding shipmate who was a positive influence on all who worked with him. He will be deeply missed.”

Applebee said Doyle is survived by his parents and two sisters.
