Loveland police say a medical event caused a 72-year-old man to drive over a curb and across a sidewalk Wednesday and crash into Lake Loveland.

Bystanders jumped into the lake to save the driver and had started CPR on the man when rescue crews arrived and took over life-saving efforts.

The incident occurred at about 3:03 p.m.

The Loveland Fire Rescue Authority Special Operations Team put divers in the water to check for any other occupants in the vehicle. There were none. Authorities later confirmed with the driver that no other people were in the vehicle.

The driver, who was not ticketed, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The six people who jumped into the water were treated at the scene for hypothermia symptoms, but none of them was taken to the hospital.
