Harpo’s FC, the Boulder-based amateur soccer team with big, bad professional teams in the U.S. Open Cup, lost its second-round game, 2-1, to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks of the United Soccer League.
According to the club’s Facebook page, the squad had a so-close-but-so-far two shots go off the post.
“A game of inches. Heads are up though!!!,” the posting said.
Sponsored by Harpo’s sports bar in Boulder and Avery Brewing, the team won the Colorado amateur championships in July, earning the right to a play-in for the 2015 Open Cup. It won that preliminary-round game in Kansas City, Mo., in late April. Last week, the team traveled to Utah to face a fourth-tier team at Brigham Young University and won in overtime, earning the game against the Switchbacks.
