Friday-Sunday: As one of summer’s most colorful events, the 13th annual Denver Chalk Art Festival draws 200 artists — pros, amateurs and students — to Larimer Square in LoDo. On the pavement, they create vivid works ranging from the whimsical to jaw-dropping renditions of famous paintings, all in chalk — the medium kids still use for sidewalk hopscotch games. This year’s festival showcases five featured artists — or madonnari (professionals in this medium). All are award-winning street painters. Begins June 5 with a Friday happy hour 5-8 p.m. The chalking begins in earnest on June 6, running from 10 a.m to 10 p.m. Continues June 7 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. along Larimer Street between 15th Street and Speer Boulevard.
