Re: “Watchdog: Ex-Nazis got $20M in benefits,” June 1 news story.
While I would agree that we should not give Social Security to war criminals, I am very uneasy about denying Social Security to “suspected” anybody. These people were apparently not convicted or even charged with crimes. This sets a disturbing precedent. People can be suspected of many things and this would allow the possibility of saving a lot of Social Security money by invalidating the rights of suspects. Preferably after they have paid a large amount into the system.
I sort of liked the old idea of innocent until proven guilty.
