Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies have detained a man after a passerby on Colorado 93 reported someone got out of a car, took a rifle or shotgun out of the trunk, climbed up the hogback near Red Rocks and fired a shot.
Spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said authorities initially didn’t know if the man they were searching for was an illegal hunter, someone who planned to commit suicide or he was involved in another scenario.
The search did not hamper the ongoing concert at Red Rocks, she said, although some roads were closed temporarily.
Police said during their search they located the driver associated with the car involved in the initial report. Several weapons were found in his trunk.
No other details were available.
“It’s a little bit of a mystery still,” Kelley said. “But we don’t have anybody who is firing at traffic.”
