Weld County continued its streak as the nation’s top job producer for a second year running,

But it barely did so, with its 8 percent year-over-year gain in employment in the fourth quarter tieing with Midland County in Texas.

A sharp drop in oil drilling this year makes a three-peat highly unlikely.

Weld County’s increase was down from the 8.8 percent increase seen in the third quarter, but remained far above the U.S. average of 2.2 percent.

Adams County ranked third among nation’s 339 most populated counties with a 6.4 percent annual gain in employment in December. That was up from the . Denver ranked 13th, similar to its rank in the third quarter.

Douglas County also had a top ranking among large counties with an 8.8 percent annual gain in average weekly wages during the fourth quarter.

Weekly wages there were $100 higher on average versus the $35 average increase nationally. At $1,240 a week, Douglas County’s average weekly wages are now higher than those in Boulder County and within $7 of matching Denver County.
