With “Vapedemic,” the first single off an album due later this year, have taken a stand. The band seems to be against vaping pot.
Ok, maybe “against” is a strong word. “Vapedemic” is a rock ‘n’ roll ditty that’s nostalgic for the days when smoking pot was done in attics, in friend’s cars, in dark swatches of woods outside the view of cops. This was a time when smoking pot was an act of rebellion, it was rock ‘n’ roll. “Vapedemic” laments how today people can discreetly vape their weed in public. There is no rite of passage in this. There is no community sharing in the art of a well-rolled blunt.
Sure, this may seem like a trivial concern. But this is rock! And Bud Bronson & The Good Timers rock. The music is straight-forward rock music, reminiscent of the good time bands of the ’80s. But unlike those bands, the singer is more spokenword, a la Craig Finn of The Hold Steady. The combination of barely sung rock music and lyrics that elevate the mundane — the B-Side of “Vapedemic” is an homage to cars — gives the music a punk rock feel.
On June 27, the band will celebrate the release of the single with a show at the , and a live in-studio session on will air on Wednesday. For now, download “Vapedemic” below, and perhaps consider actually smoking the pot first.
