Forecasters say Denver can thank severe storms moving across the northern U.S. plains and Midwest for a dust haze that settled over the Front Range on Monday.
“It’s pretty much low level dust from outflow thunderstorms,” said Kyle Fredin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boulder.
Fredin said the storms, moving through Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska, pushed low pressure into Colorado and with it carried the particles picked up by high winds.
Additionally, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment says light smoke from fires in other western states may be visible at times over the next several days.
