Getting your player ready...

It didn’t take long for San Jose (Calif.) Valley Christian linebacker Akil Jones to make up his mind about the University of Colorado.

The 6-foot-1 215-pounder, a three-star prospect according to , took an unofficial visit to Boulder last week before taking a couple days to make the decision with his family.

Saturday he called coach Mike MacIntyre to tell him he wanted to join the Buffaloes.

“I could hear the coaches screaming and jumping through the phone,” Jones said.

Jones received offers from Wyoming, San Diego State, UNLV and Utah State. He said he also received late interest from Oregon State and Texas, but his recruiting trip to CU sold him.

“I couldn’t figure out one thing wrong. The area was beautiful,” Jones said. “It’s not really a college out there that could change my mind.”

Jones said MacIntyre referred to his oral commitment as a “wedding ring promise,” but Jones said he doubts he will take another college visit.

He plays outside linebacker, defensive end and running back at Valley Christian, but Jones said CU defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt will start him off at inside linebacker.

Jones already is helping on the Buffaloes’ recruiting trail. He’s trying to get three-star running back and Valley Christian teammate Morian Walker to join him in Boulder.

Jones is the fourth addition to the Buffaloes’ Class of 2016, joining Denver South offensive tackle Terriek Roberts, Oregon quarterback Sam Noyer and Georgia linebacker Derrion Rakestraw.
