Mountain View police arrested a 30-year-old Bailey man early Wednesday who allegedly fled from officers during a traffic stop and was wanted in Park County on suspicion of attempted murder.
Matthew Shepherd is being held at the Jefferson County jail on the Park County warrant and on charges linked to the traffic stop and pursuit.
Just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, police say an officer saw Shepherd driving erratically near 44th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.
“When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop to contact the driver, (Shepherd) made an evasive left turn and crashed into a (parked) vehicle,” police said in a news release.
Shepherd fled on foot but was quickly apprehended in a nearby yard, police say.
A 31-year-old Bailey woman, Carrie Redding, who was a passenger in Shepherd’s car, was also arrested on suspicion of drug-related charges.
“Shepherd also had several additional warrants for his arrest in multiple jurisdictions,” police said.
Authorities did not release further information on the nature of the attempted murder charge.
