Two men who allegedly stole more than $1,000 in merchandise from a Walmart in Timnath were chased down by officers and police dogs early Thursday.

The alleged driver of the stolen pickup that was ditched, 29-year-old Tyler Duke King of Idaho Springs, was found hiding in a nearby shed by a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team.

The suspected passenger, who was not named by officers, was found hiding in a ditch, according to the sheriff’s department.

A witness called authorities and said two men were loading merchandise, which the witness suspected was stolen, into the back of a white pickup outside the Walmart at Harmony Road near Interstate 25 about 2:35 a.m.

A sheriff’s deputy caught up to the truck going north on I-25, but the vehicle veered off onto Prospect Road, stopped and then took off again, hitting the deputy’s cruiser. The truck raced away at speeds of more than 90 mph on Summit View Drive and Timberline Road before crashing into a ditch. Deputies and dogs apprehended the two men.

King faces numerous felonies and misdemeanors related to the theft and pursuit. He was booked into the Larimer County jail. Charges are pending against the passenger, the sheriff’s department said.
