Getting your player ready...

Worried. Like many others, I became angry with Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson. His lack of discipline and irresponsible behavior are inexcusable. But I feel bad for him as well. He’s flesh and blood, prone to screwing up just like anyone who isn’t an NBA star. So as I read your recent column, Kiz, I stopped thinking about Lawson the basketball player and started thinking of Ty the human being. My anger became concern. I hope there is someone out there to care enough to treat him as a human being and not an NBA star.

Gurney, Boulder

Kiz: After his second arrest on suspicion of drunk driving, Lawson agreed to enter an alcohol rehab program. Yes, the move could reduce his punishment from a judge. Sports franchises, however, often talk about the locker room being family. Well, here’s a chance for the Nuggets and Lawson to work together on a family issue, then worry later about the point guard’s future in Denver.

Too much bread. Signing Demaryius Thomas to a five-year, $70 million contract was a big mistake! The Broncos have more pressing needs than to allocate so much money to a wide receiver. I like Thomas but was fine with the Broncos sticking to their guns and letting him play this year under the franchise tag. This decision has me scratching my head.

Daniel, no-nonsense negotiator

Kiz: One hour before the deadline to get a deal done, I declared my drop-dead offer would be five years, $70 million. Maybe if John Elway started following me on Twitter, he could finally win NFL executive of the year. Was this deal a little pricey? Yes. But a team can’t truly adopt a championship-or-bust attitude with a nickel-and-dime budget.

Rams must step it up. What are your thoughts on the CU Buffaloes ending the Rocky Mountain Showdown with Colorado State to start a home-and-home football series with Air Force?

F.C., repping Rams Nation

Kiz: Glad to see that Colorado and Air Force have finally agreed to play for the first time since 1974. It’s about time; good for them. It’s also time the Rams schedule a series with Oklahoma or Baylor, with the home date in Denver. If CSU has real hope of turning the pipe dream of Big 12 Conference membership into reality, the Rams need: 1) solid evidence they can play with the big boys, and 2) bona fide interest from alums in the Denver television market.

Free falling. And today’s parting shot asks: Anybody seen Tiger?

I submit that never in the history of U.S. sports has an athlete gone from the top to the bottom as quickly and steadily as has Tiger Woods.

Pete, charting the decline
