Just in case you didn’t know, the fiddle player from Head for the Hills can spit rhyme. And just like that, Grim and Darling opened a beautiful Sunday evening at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre along the Cache la Poudre River 30 minutes outside of Fort Collins. Those lucky enough to be there early were treated to a fantastic acoustic hip-hop set from the duo, along with the aforementioned Joe Lessard, who hones his rhyming skills in Whiskey Blankets, and Fort Collins’ Jamie Jay on bass. Next up, Wasteland Hop kept the crowd jumping with full band instrumentation and more hip-hop and funky tunes. Finishing up a three-night Front Range run at this breathtaking outdoor venue, Jurassic 5 played to an energetic capacity crowd. They kept the flow smooth and the beats bumping as those in attendance screamed in delight. With a few choreographed dance moves and a lot of call and response, J5 made it known that true conscious hip hop is alive and well.
