The National Weather Service said Wednesday night that damage in a campground in western Douglas County was caused by a high-altitude tornado.

Trees were downed in a six-acre area around the Devils Head Campground in the Pike National Forest on Tuesday afternoon. The fire tower, campground, trail and picnic grounds were damaged and have closed for repairs.

The NWS said on Twitter that the EF rating of the tornado was still being determined.
