Re: “Should shooting be banned in national forests?,” July 23 letter to the editor.

Letter-writer Alan Thomas decries the imposition that a shooting ban in national forests would place on the majority of gun owners who are law-abiding and safety-conscious.

Even though most airline travelers are not terrorists, law-abiding citizens are greatly inconvenienced by airline security procedures, but most of us don’t ask that security protocols be relaxed. Most people will not break into your home, but many of us endure the expense and bother of home security systems.

When the impact of a very few criminal or even irresponsible people can have a devastating effect on others, we all have to tolerate restrictions on our behavior.

David Wolf, Lakewood
