Forecasters are calling for mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures on Thursday in Denver before a chance of late afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service in Boulder says temperatures will top out near 88 degrees in the city and there is a 10 percent chance of storms after 4 p.m.

“Isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop over Park County and extending across the Palmer Divide this afternoon,” the weather service said in a forecast bulletin.

Forecasters say additional storms will also develop across the far northeast corner of the state through the evening hours.

“Expect brief, heavy rain, small hail and gusty winds to 50 mph with the stronger storms,” the bulletin said.

The weather service says there will be a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms through the middle of next week, mainly over the Front Range mountains.

“These storms will be capable of gusty outflow winds and light to moderate rainfall,” according to the bulletin. “Temperatures will start out slightly below average on Friday and warm to slightly above average by early next week.”
