Getting your player ready...

Heading to the Western Slope anytime soon? You might want to time your trip to coincide with the Palisade Peach Festival, which runs Aug. 14 and 15, and tote home a big box of that delicious fruit, enough to eat as many as you want, and also whip up some peach cobblers and pies.

One of Colorado’s original agricultural festivals, the Palisade peach fest has it all — peach cuisine demonstrations, a peach recipe contest, and two

peach-eating contests. (Both are on Saturday, at 12:30 p.m. for kids and 4 p.m. for adults.)

You can browse fruit stands, including those from family-operated orchards with peaches fresh from the trees.

You can stock up on jams, syrups, fruit butters and salsa, along with solar-dried fruit.

And for about $50, you can buy a ticket for tours of local peach orchards, which includes a two-day pass for the festival, and a box lunch and wine tasting at High Country Orchard, plus peach ice cream at the Clark Family Orchard.

For more information and a complete schedule, go to .

The Palisade Peach Festival will be held at Riverbend Park, 451 Pendleton St., Palisade; 970-464-7458.
