Re: “Stop the EPA’s power grab, Colorado,” July 18 guest commentary.
The EPA’s Clean Power Plan (which was unveiled by President Obama on Monday) is America’s chance to step up and help lead the world into a clean energy frontier. This policy will afford Colorado great environmental, economic and social benefits. The ultimate goal of the CPP is to limit the amount of carbon pollutants in the air. Pollution from carbon has been linked to a number of negative health consequences such as asthma and lung disease.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, asthma alone has an annual price tag of $56 billion. Colorado is well-positioned to comply with the CPP’s targets as we have taken great strides toward clean energy production in recent years. Because of this, we’ve paved the way for continued carbon reduction rates without raising energy costs.
