A 49-year-old employee at a Pueblo middle school was shot Tuesday morning as he arrived for work, police say, and authorities are searching for a man wanted in connection with the encounter.

The shooting happened at Cesar Chavez Academy, at 2500 West 18th St., about 7 a.m.

Police say the wounded man was “coherent” as he was taken to a hospital. It was not clear what position the wounded man holds at the school.

“At this time in the investigation it is believed that the shooter and the victim are known to each other,” police said in a news release.

Police are searching for Francisco Antonio Fresquez, 68, in connection with the shooting.

Fresquez should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Authorities say no students were at the school at the time of the shooting since classes are not in session.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police.
