A youth corrections inmate slipped out of custody Wednesday, bolting from a Denver hospital bathroom through an adjoining, unlocked door.
Alyxander Stephen Yawn, 18, escaped from Presbyterian Saint Luke Medical Center, 1719 East 19th Ave., Tuesday morning after handcuffs and leg restraints were removed, at a doctor’s request, in an examination room, according to an El Paso Sheriff’s Office media release. With the restraints removed, Yawn asked to use a bathroom.
About a minute later a corrections officer checked on him, only to find Yawn gone. He fled through an unlocked, adjoining door.
Yawn was serving a misdemeanor drug sentence out of El Paso County. An escape warrant has been issued.
Yawn was last seen wearing gray pants and a burgundy and purple short sleeve polo shirt.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 719 390-5555.
