Jurors in the Aurora theater shooting trial have two choices in their third and final deliberation. They will decide whether to sentence James Holmes to life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty. Either way, it is likely Holmes’ case will be tied up in appeals for as many as two decades. If they select capital punishment, he will immediately be moved to solitary confinement on death row located in Sterling. The actual execution would take place in Canon City. Currently there are three other men on death row. Nathan Dunlap murdered four people at a Chunk-e-Cheese restaurant, Sir Mario Owens killed an engaged couple in Aurora, and Robert Ray ordered the hit that Owens took out on the young couple. Governor Hickenlooper issued an Executive Order effectively stopping all executions during his administration, leaving future executions to his successor.
