
Denver tied a 55-year-old record low temperature Tuesday as the mercury dropped to 47 degrees.
The National Weather Service in Boulder said the low temperature recorded at 5:17 a.m. at Denver International Airport .
Denver weather forecasters are calling for a break from the hot temperatures on Tuesday, but the chance for afternoon storms persists.
Forecasters said the high temperature in Denver is expected to reach 73 degrees on Tuesday as a cold front moves in.
There’s a 20 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m., primarily over higher terrain.
“Rain showers will be likely tonight along the Front Range and over the Eastern Plains as an upper level system moves across northeast Colorado,” the weather service said in a forecast bulletin. “There may also be a few embedded thunderstorms with the showers tonight.”
including Sedgwick, Crook, Wiggins and Elizabeth, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service reported golf-ball-sized hail in Crook on Monday.

Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, Denver can expect a 60 percent chance of rain, the weather service said, with low dipping around 51 degrees.
On Wednesday, temperatures in Denver should remain in the low 70s, the weather service said, under partly sunny skies.
