DENVER — There were some confusing moments for passengers onboard a Southwest Airlines flight from Austin, TX to Denver last Wednesday.

The flight was diverted to Colorado Springs because of “severe weather,” according to an airline spokesperson, but passengers say they did not know of the diversion until after the Boeing 737 safely landed.

“I started looking out the window and was like, to my husband Doug, I was like, ‘What high school is this? Why are there so many trees?'” said passenger Kelly Beck.

Beck said the flight attendants even read connecting gate information planning on a touchdown in Denver.

In a statement to 7NEWS, a Southwest spokesperson said, “It’s possible that the crew was focused on the safety of the customers and did not have time to offer an update before landing in Colorado Springs. As with everything we do, safety is our absolute number one priority and our flight crews execute that mission with our approximately 3,800 daily flights across our network.”

After landing in Colorado Springs, the jet refueled and landed in Denver about 2 hours later.

A Southwest spokesperson was not able to tell us how often announcements are not made concerning a diversion.

According to the airport, there were several reported diversions on Wednesday.
