Denver police arrested a 46-year-old man accused of committing a series of four sex assaults early Monday near the 16th Street Mall.
Jerry Gordon Odell is being held at Denver’s downtown jail in lieu of $5,000 bond on suspicion of unlawful sexual contact, city records show.
Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said Odell was arrested about 7:50 a.m. on Monday after the alleged assaults.
According to a probable cause statement, police first learned of the assaults in the area of 15th and Stout Streets after a woman told investigators she was attacked. The woman said a man, later identified as Odell, told her “you’re so pretty” and asked her “to give him a little something.”
Odell then grabbed the woman from behind as she was walking away and wrapped his arms around her belly just below her breasts before fleeing, the statement said.
Police say a second victim in the area came forward and reported that Odell had blocked her from walking and forcefully grabbed her arm.
As officers were investigating the first two assaults, a third attack was reported in the lobby of a nearby apartment building.
A woman there told police Odell grabbed her from behind, touched her breasts and then grabbed her butt and crotch, the statement says.
While police were investigating the third alleged assault, a report of a fourth attack was called in from the 1400 block of Champa Street. According to court records, the woman told police Odell wrapped his arms around her waist, threw her to the ground and began sexually assaulting her.
Odell fled as bystanders came to help the fourth woman.
Police say they found Odell in the area. He was taken into custody and identified by the women as their attacker, records show.
