You’re probably used to seeing rocking out alongside various performers on the “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” but on Oct. 18, the world-famous hip-hop crew will grace the stage at the for a full performance.

The band consists of Black Thought (MC), media-personality-in-his-own-right Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson (drums), Kamal Gray (electronic keyboards), F. Knuckles (percussion), Captain Kirk Douglas (electronic guitar), Damon Bryson (sousaphone) and James Poyser (electronic keyboard). The Roots formed in 1987 as a breakout crew from Philadelphia and went on to be what Rolling Stone has called one of the greatest live acts of all time.

Albums like “Things Fall Apart,” The Tipping Point” and 2010’s “How I Got Over” were integral to the growth of neo-soul and a more jazzy and electric approach to hip-hop in its modern form. The MC and frontman for the band, Black Thought, is largely considered one of the strongest rappers in the game while ?uest Love is a music aficionado, historian and champion.

Most recently the band was nominated for a Grammy with the release of “…and then you shoot your cousin,” a conceptual album that delves into the ills of society.

Tickets are on sale this Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. and available online at .
