Getting your player ready...

After Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks will have played their first two games without the heart of their defense — safety Kam Chancellor.

Chancellor is holding out for a new contract with more guaranteed money, but it’s become a lose-lose situation for both parties.

There are only three ways the stalemate can end.

— Chancellor gives up his battle at some point, either accepting the Seahawks new contract offer or continuing to play on his current one.

— The Seahawks are tired of seeing their secondary get torched, give in to Chancellor’s demands and he receives his money.

— There is no resolution. Chancellor sits out the entire season or the Seahawks trade him.

But no matter what the final option is, one thing is certain. Seattle and Chancellor should have settled this earlier and they are now suffering the consequences.

The Seahawks can’t chalk this up to ‘next man up.’ We saw in Week 1, Seattle’s next man up — safety Dion Bailey – isn’t good enough.

Seattle’s secondary struggles, not Marshawn Lynch’s inability to get them one yard, cost them Sunday in the overtime loss at St. Louis.

A once feared secondary coined ‘Legion of Boom’ is just a legion without Chancellor. Bailey struggled heavily Sunday including giving up the game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter on Rams tight end Lance Kendricks’ 37-yard touchdown reception.

“He needs to come back in. We need to get him back in,” coach Pete Carroll said at a press conference Wednesday.

They do because they are 0-1 and headed into a NFC Championship rematch with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers with a good chance to be 0-2.

Seattle might be digging themselves a hole they can’t get out of if the holdout drags on.
