During home room at Lakewood on Tuesday, Georgia Phillips had a session that she’ll probably never forget or match.

There it came with over the system, loud and clear. Phillips, a senior, was named an AAU All-American volleyball player.

“It was pretty exciting,” she said. “They made the announcement with the bio and everything … I thought it was pretty exciting.”

As well as long and informative, as Phillips, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, was recognized for her prowess as a player for her club team, Juggernaut, as well as her academic accomplishments. Plus, add in her play as a Tiger and it made for a long list.

Phillips has a 4.919 GPA, so she’s first in her class unweighted and fifth weighted. ACT score of 35, SAT of 2,250. President’s Award for Academic Excellence; White House; Department of Education. Academic High Honors from Lakewood. Junior escort at Commencement.

Athletically, all-Jefferson County and state all-academic. Made the club level’s national travel and regional teams multiple times.

In addition, vice-president of National Honor Society. Teen scholarship intern/ Denver Museum of Nature and Science; Earth Science Studies Mamath Educational Foundation, North Dakota.

Community service? Worked with International Community Service learning group in Ecuador; student mentor/teachers’ aide in a Jeffco elementary school..

The aspiring engineer has ideas of playing at MIT and is also considering the likes of and Carnegie Mellon and NYU.

However, for now she’s focused on helping her Tigers have a significant season in Class 5A.

“We’re off to a good start,” she said as the Tigers reached 3-0. “We’re playing very well.”
