Two men, posing as water company employees, talked their way into a Littleton residence and stole money and jewelry from the home owner.

On Tuesday, police took a report on the incident, according a Littleton Police Department media release.

Two men, driving a blue van, knocked on the victim’s door and told her they were investigating a possible water main break. The resident let the pair in and they ran water in the kitchen sink, looking for a colored-dye to come from the faucet.

The pair then led the woman into her back yard.

While they were in the yard a third person, an accomplice of the pair, came into the home and stole money and jewelry. The two imposters were at the home for about 15 to 30 minutes.

The victim didn’t realize what had happened until they left.

She did, however, notice a third person, in the passenger seat of the van, when they originally arrived. Police are searching for all three.

Police said legitimate service workers will generally drive a vehicle clearly marked with company logos, they’ll carry identification, typically wear a uniform, and should be able to provide a business card.

When in doubt, residents should not allow access to their home. Call police, the release said, and an officer will help verify workers’ legitimacy.
