A 44-year-old police officer has been identified as the person who fatally shot a 17-year-old boy in Fountain last week.
Jonathan Kay, who shot the boy on Thursday, has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Kay began working for the Fountain Police Department in February of 2015.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances of the shooting that happened about 2:45 p.m. in the 700 block of Legend Oak Drive as two officers responded to a disturbance.
The teen was pronounced dead about 5:15 p.m., the county sheriff’s office said.
