Mount Evans Road, the highest paved road in North America, will close to vehicles at Echo Lake on Oct. 5, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The road, Colorado 5, ends at the Mount Evans summit parking lot at 14,130 feet.
CDOT typically closes the final five-mile segment of the road the day after Labor Day. and construction work delayed the highway’s opening , so arrangements were made with the U.S. Forest Service to keep the highway open to the summit for 27 days past its usual closure date.
The highway is scheduled to reopen for the 2016 summer season, weather permitting, on the Friday before Memorial Day.
