Phoenix — Charlie Blackmon would rather be playing baseball in mid-October. Since he won’t be, he’ll do the next best thing.

The Rockies’ center fielder will indulge in three of his passions: hunting, fishing and flying. What’s more, he’ll be filmed while doing it.

Blackmon has signed on to guest star on an episode of

“I consider myself more of a fisherman than a hunter, but I have always done both,” Blackmon said. “And I’ve always loved anything that flies, since I was a kid. My favorite movie is “Top Gun,” and I’ve always wanted to do this.”

Blackmon’s adventure begins on Oct. 19 with an elk hunting trip in Idaho. A few days later, he’ll venture to Florida’s Gulf Coast for deep-sea finishing and then his flight with the legendary Blue Angels.

He’s hoping to land a big fish, mostly likely king mackerel.

“They’re fighting fish, they have big teeth and the really get out of the water,” Blackmon said with a gleam in his eye. “They can get over 50 pounds.”

Blackmon swears he’s not afraid of losing his lunch when he rips through the sky with the Blue Angels.

“Nope, I’m not worried about it,” he said. “It will be worth it.”

Blackmon said he’s not certain when his particular episode will run on The Sportsman Channel.
