The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said Monday it is investigating whether a burglary reported last week involving police impersonators is linked to others in northern Colorado on the same day.
The Sheriff’s Office says the burglary was reported about 8 a.m. Wednesday on the 4800 block of Foothills Drive in Fort Collins.
According to investigators, two or three people approached a homeowner dressed in civilian clothes, and one displayed a badge and handgun to gain entry into the home.
“The individuals did not take anything of value from the home, and no one was injured,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “As the individuals were leaving, the resident asked to see their credentials and they refused to provide them.”
The Sheriff’s Office says it is working with police in Fort Collins and Greeley to determine whether that impersonator incident is linked to others reported Wednesday.
, a woman heard strange noises in her home about 7:15 p.m. and found a male intruder, according to police. The man left the house, and a short time later another man entered the home and identified himself as a police officer.
The second man, whom police suspect is a police imposter, “went through the motions of taking a police report and left her residence,” police said in a news release.
Authorities did not release details on the Greeley investigations.
