Castle Rock Police are warning drivers to be vigilant after investigations of a suspected cop impersonator.

A man said he was pulled over in the Castle Oaks area by a maroon Crown Victoria car with red and blue flashing lights on the visor and a bright spot light on Tuesday morning, according to a Town of Castle Rock news release.

The man said he pulled over and noticed that the person who pulled him over was wearing blue jeans and a jacket with an orange badge. He concluded that this was not a legitimate police officer, turned on his hazards lights and slowly drove away, the release said.

Eventually, the driver of the Crown Victoria turned onto another road.

Officers are now investigating.

“If motorists are questioning whether they are being pulled over by a legitimate police officer, Castle Rock Police says it’s alright to be concerned.”

To be safe, police are suggesting that concerned drivers can activate their hazard lights and drive to a police department or another well-lit, popular area or call 911.
