The Wheat Ridge Police Department is seeking information about a man suspected of impersonating a police officer on Wednesday.
A man knocked on the door of a woman’s residence in the 3900 block of Parfet Street around 6:35 p.m. and stated that he was a Wheat Ridge Police Officer who had information about her son, according to a Wheat Ridge Police Department news release.
The man asked to come inside the woman’s home.
The resident asked to see a badge, which the suspect displayed, the release said.
Investigators later determined that the badge was not a Wheat Ridge police officer badge.
The resident told the suspect that she needed to get her reading glasses and shut the door, police said.
She then called Wheat Ridge police, and a patrol officer was dispatched. While on the phone, the suspect took off.
The suspect’s car was not seen, the release said.
“In this case, the resident took exactly the right actions to protect herself and assist police with the investigation,” the release said.
If residents have doubts about a person identifying themselves as a police officer, they are encouraged to not allow entry into the residence, call the police to verify the officer was sent, make careful observations to relate a good description of the individual and any vehicles, and don’t rely solely on a badge identification that can be faked.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Wheat Ridge Police Department.
A string of police impersonators have been making their way across Colorado with recent impersonations in , , and .
