Sunday’s unseasonably warm weather beat a 85 degree record for this date set in 1975 and again in 1996, according to the National Weather Service.

At 1:47 p.m., the temperature topped the record with a reading of 87 degrees, said Kyle Fredin, a meteorologist with the NWS in Boulder.

Temperatures are expected to be unseasonably warm through the week, said Robert Koopmeiners, a meteorologist at the weather service in Boulder.

The temperature Monday, which is normally about 67 degrees, is expected to hit 70 degrees, and temperatures are expected to climb to 80 degrees on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, Koopmeiners said, it is not likely to rain for the next week. “There is no hope for any precipitation, not even in the mountains and we need some water, we are starting to dry out pretty bad. Little fires are starting,” he said.

On Sunday, three brushfires, one of them near Bennett, another near Wellington, and a third near Greeley, burned. The fire near Bennett destroyed a guest house, two sheds and about a dozen vehicles, officials said.

There was no property damaged in the blaze near Wellington. The fire near Greeley damaged a barn and the siding on houses.
