A police officer in downtown Denver. (Seth A. McConnell, The Denver Post)

Re: “How Colorado laws give fired police officers from other states a second chance here,” Oct. 11 news story.

Reading your article on “problem cops,” I was disappointed that you did not even mention the “good cops” who are hired from out of state.

I recently attended a graduation at the Denver Police Academy. It was a “lateral class,” composed of more than 20 officers who had experience elsewhere — some in state and others out of state. They had just gone through two months of intense training. This is the second time these officers had gone through such training. In effect, they had earned their master’s degree in police work.

Some had outstanding records and had won citations for saving lives during their time prior to coming to Colorado. They chose Denver to improve their and their families’ lives. Denver can be proud that these officers are now working for its citizens.
