DENVER (AP) — Police are looking for whoever vandalized a memorial to an officer who was killed while trying to break up a disturbance during a crowded concert at Denver’s City Park.

The Denver Post reports (http://goo.gl/fJKt8F ) the monument to Celena Hollis was sprayed Oct. 15 with profane graffiti denouncing law enforcement. Hollis was killed while working June 24, 2012, at a City Park Jazz concert.

Rollin Oliver pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting.

Stephanie O’Malley, the city’s executive director of public safety, says “It is unfathomable that someone would willingly and purposefully desecrate a sacred place.”

In February, protesters spilled red paint on a fallen officer memorial outside Denver police headquarters. Two men were arrested and charged in that case.
