Snowy weather and multiple crashes have prompted road closures and warnings for mountain commuters Tuesday evening, officials said.

One lane is open on Interstate 70 West at Vail Pass summit, mile marker 180. All lanes were closed earlier due to multiple crashes and road conditions, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Eastbound I-70 is closed at Silverthorne due to multiple accidents.

A travel restriction was put into place by CDOT in both directions of I-70 from mile marker 178 to 195 due to the road conditions. The department reminded drivers that chains are required for all commercial vehicles.

U.S. 6 Loveland Pass is closed due to an avalanche hazard. Delays in the area are expected, CDOT said.

Denver residents can expect steady winds between 10 to 20 mph beginning late Tuesday morning with gusts up to 25 mph, forecasters say.

A frost advisory has been posted for Wednesday morning, with temperatures expected to drop to the low-to-mid 30s.

Northeast plains towns including Sterling and Fort Morgan could see low temperatures dip to 28 Wednesday morning, Cooper said.

While northern Colorado could get rain and snow showers Tuesday, Denver is expected to remain dry, Cooper said.

High temperatures in the Denver area will range between the high 50s to the low 60s through Friday.

Cooper predicted that trick-or-treaters should remain warm on Halloween Saturday.

“They’ll be dry,” he said.
