Ski bums, rejoice! Arapahoe Basin will open for the season at 9 a.m. Thursday.

A-Basin chief operating officer Alan Henceroth wrote in a blog post that conditions are ideal to kick off opening day.

“While there is plenty of snow on the trail, it will take every bit of the next 23 hours to get the place ready,” Henceroth wrote. “There is lots of snowcat work, ski patrol work, lift-op work and general ski-area work to get done in that time.”

announced Monday that it will open at 9 a.m. Thursday. The two resorts, which have a friendly battle each year to be the first to open, are about 7½ miles apart over Loveland Pass on U.S. 6.

Copper Mountain officials announced Wednesday that because of warm weather and limited snowmaking they are moving their opening day from Nov. 6 to Nov. 13.
