Boulder police are investigating a sexual assault in which a man slipped into an apartment early Sunday morning and fondled a woman in her bed.

Police say the Latino man was between 25 to 30 years old, 5-foot-8, with a thin mustache. He was wearing a black, flat-billed baseball cap and dark pants and jacket, according to a Boulder police news release.

The assault happened at 5:20 a.m. in an apartment in the 1200 block of College Avenue, according to the news release.

The woman was awakened as a strange man was pulling off bed covers and touching her leg. She began yelling at the man to get out of her apartment.

The man claimed he had climbed into the wrong apartment, called the woman by the wrong name and used a sexual innuendo.

The suspect left the apartment shortly after. The victim noticed her wallet was missing the following day. Other residents of the apartment complex report being burglarized between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

The suspect had a Latino accent but spoke fluent English.

Officers said they believe the suspect entered through unlocked doors.
