Denver’s high temperature climbed to 73 degrees Monday, which was 15 degrees above the normal high for the date, but local weather is about to take a dip, with rain and possible snow in the forecast.

“Enjoy the warm weather before it really cools down,” said Jim Kalina, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder. “We could see a little bit of snow by Wednesday.”

The normal high temperature for Nov. 3 in Denver is 58 degrees. The metro forecast for Tuesday calls for a high of 73 degrees under sunny skies.

“It’s quite a bit above normal,” Kalina said.

The record high temperature in Denver on Nov. 3 is 79 degrees, set in 1915, according to weather service records.

After Tuesday, a change is coming. A storm front is expected to move into Colorado, bringing a 50 percent chance for rain Wednesday evening. A mix of rain and snow is expected in the Denver area, and as much as 8 inches of snow is expected in the mountains, Kalina said.

Even though snow is possible in Denver on Wednesday and Thursday, it is not expected to accumulate up to 1/10th of an inch, the level at which snowfall is considered measurable, said Bob Koopmeiners, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.

In the 133 years that weather statistics have been kept in Colorado, there have only been 23 years in which there wasn’t a measurable amount of snow by Nov. 1 in Denver.

The longest the city went without measurable snow was Nov. 21, 1934, Koopmeiners said.

The temperature is expected to drop to the high 50s or low 60s on Wednesday and won’t get above 50 on Thursday.

Scattered showers are expected in Denver throughout the day on Thursday.
