There will be a few new people on Thornton City Council after voters choose newcomers in three out of four wards up for election Tuesday.
The mayor’s seat, however, will remain occupied by Heidi Williams who overwhelmingly defeated her challenger and current Mayor Pro Tem Val Vigil with 71 percent of the vote. Williams got 12,547 out of 17,492 total ballots. Vigil received about 4,945 votes( 29 percent).
In Ward 1, Jacque Phillips barely defeated incumbent Jenice “JJ” Dove with 8 votes — 833 to Phillips and 825 to Dove, as of Wednesday afternoon.
Current Ward 3 Councilman SomXai Vue was ousted by Josh Zygielbaum who received 1,688 votes to Vue’s 1,285, a number that actually put him in third. Another candidate, Michele Haedrich got 1,369 votes from a total of 4,943 cast in Ward 3.
The Ward 4 seat will go to Adam Matkowsky, who took nearly 50 percent (2,433 out of 4,957 votes) over two challengers.
Ward 2 incumbent Eric Montoya ran unopposed.
