Two men who were throwing rocks at cars assaulted two police officers Thursday afternoon, including one policeman who suffered a serious head injury when he fell head first on the sidewalk.

The name of the officer has not been released, nor has his current condition.

“He’s still hospitalized,” Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said Friday.

Two suspects were throwing rocks at cars in the 700 block of West Alameda Avenue at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, Jackson said.

When two Denver police officers arrived at the scene near South Santa Fe Drive, two men immediately began attacking them.

During the “scuffle,” one officer was shoved over a wall and landed on his head.

The two men ran away at that point.

While the injured officer was taken to the hospital, police set up a perimeter and arrested both suspects. The names of the suspects have not been released.
