A 70-year-old man was pulled from Palmer Lake Friday evening and taken to a local hospital.

The water “accident” happened at about 7:30 p.m., said Lt. Jason Vanderpool of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators on Friday night were trying to piece together what happened, Vanderpool said.

A Palmer Lake Fire Department spokesperson told the Colorado Springs Gazette that the man is in critical condition at Memorial Hospital.

There was fishing equipment on the shore in the area where the victim was rescued.

Palmer Lake, west of I-25 and north of Colorado Springs, is a popular recreation area which attracts fishermen as well as hikers and bicyclists.
