Denver will be cooler Thursday before a new storm arriving in the evening brings lots of new snow to the mountains.
By Friday afternoon, the Denver metro area could get anywhere from a dusting to a few inches of new snow, said meteorologist Dave Barjenbruch of the National Weather Service in Boulder. Temperatures Thursday are expected to rise to the mid-to-upper 40s in Denver.
“Winds will be much lighter than they were yesterday,” Barjenbruch said.
On Wednesday, Rocky Flats measured one gust at 102 mph, he said.
Snow flurries were already falling early Thursday morning in the mountains. Much more is expected through the day and on Friday.
Steamboat Springs could win the snowfall lottery with as much as 15 inches of new snow projected there, according to Barjenbruch.
The high temperature on Saturday will be in the 30s in Denver. But temperatures will quickly bounce back up to the 50s Sunday through Tuesday.
The next storm could hit the state in time for pre-Thanksgiving travel on Wednesday. The system could also drop snow in the metro area on Thanksgiving day, making holiday travel more difficult.
